Burn, Baby, Burn!

After strolling last week through the 232 acre Wildlife Management area that adjoins and surrounds our property, I spent a lot of time today looking out the windows and wondering just how the Bureau of Reclamation boys are going to keep the fire they're planning to start (maybe next week) away from our house. We'd seen some activity down in the willows in that area, so Wayne went over one day to see what was up; I wish he hadn't. The entire area is going to be burned to get rid of the dead sagebrush, willows, and grass. We're assured that "everything will green up so nicely!" after the burn. Well, the wind NEVER stops blowing out here; we are surrounded by mountains and in the Garfield Canyon, which acts as a wind funnel all the time. If that "controlled fire" gets out of hand, we'll lose our house, garage, 5th-wheel, and everything else that is in the path of the burn. The man Wayne spoke with said that the land would be burned right up to our fence, and on the north side of the house, that fence is less than 38 yards from where the burn is supposed to end. Stop, bad burn, stop! Will shouting that save the house? And won't our windows, roof, decks, and things love lovely, coated with ashes for who knows how long? That's just what we want when we're trying to sell this place, right? Stay tuned . . .
